Productivity Through Automation A Tech Priority For Federal Agencies, Says Report
A new report confirms the outsized role the public sector is playing in driving digital transformation, including the implementation of intelligent automation technology. Titled Seeds of Change, the General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) report found that nearly two-thirds of U.S. federal agencies said they are embracing emerging technologies to accelerate digital transformation. As for automation, the military is leading the way, according to the report.
While cybersecurity is the biggest driver of technological change for government agencies, increased productivity is a close second, which is why so many are testing and implementing RPA and intelligent automation solutions. While nearly half of those polled said they had implemented cybersecurity and cloud solutions, nearly 40 percent reported having adopted or in the process of adopting RPA. In the next 12-to-24 months, cognitive agents and chatbots were identified as the technology cited by most respondents (39 percent) as new priorities.
“Emerging technologies are positively impacting every part of our government, from national security to health to education to public safety,” said Ben Gianni, GDIT senior vice president and chief technology officer. “While this journey will also present new challenges, agencies that strategically adopt emerging technologies will be better positioned to improve decision-making, maximize operational efficiencies, combat escalating cybersecurity threats, and advance mission effectiveness.”
Cost and budgetary concerns emerged as the biggest challenges for tech leaders in government agencies, along with reskilling employees to effectively work with the new technologies. Click here to download a copy of the report.
